Day 12 – Les Houche to Chamonix

Just as well we had been training as this was a monster ascent.

From Les Houches, the track runs up..and up..with breathtaking views across to Mt Blanc down into Chamonix. The track crosses many gorges, where you can hang onto a chain to prevent arriving in Chamonix much quicker than anticipated.

The refuge de belle LeChat provided welcome soup, and then there was a rocky climb to the eyrie that is the peak Belvary – 1400 m above our starting point.
It was a welcome chair lift down from there – although we saw a base jumper who flew under the chairlift and got down much quicker than we did.
At Chamonix we were reunited with LL and celebrated RFs birthday with style at at Le Cap Horn – the Couer de Boeff was my pick of the week.

There, it’s done. Three countries, more than 100kms, 2500 m up.
